New Happenings on the Island

I am so blown away by how God works out His plans.  He has used the willing hearts of a family in Harrisburg, NC, to reach a people group halfway around the world through the miracle of adoption.

We never know what amazing things will come of our 'Yes' to God.  The Hendersons had adoption on their hearts and with it came water and the Gospel for a whole island of people.  They are currently on their way to Ethiopia to pick up their son, Lemi, who lived on the island with Tia and Garrett six years ago.  And, there are some more exciting happenings on Zadecha as well.  Read David's latest blog about what God is doing now....

I thank God for the Henderson's hearts and Garrett's heart.  Look what God can do when we say YES!

30 LITRES per MINUTE!

Just got news from Zadecha Island in Lake Zway in Ethiopia that there are NOW two functioning wells providing clean drinking water for the Zay people. One Spring/Well is providing 30 liters of clean drinking water per minute.

THANK YOU to all who have prayed, sacrificed and given to make this happen. It has been a long journey but oh so worth it.

Water is Life!

Great News!!!

I received the news yesterday that Water is Life International is going to be tapping two springs on the island within the next three months. Thanks to the generosity of so many, the approx. $13,000 needed to provide clean fresh water to the people of Zadecha is available and we are ready to go.

I have learned that the water sources have been on the island all along but are close to the waterline of Lake Zway. In the rainy season, the water of the lake covers them up, polluting the water and in the dry season the animals use the springs which makes it unclean as well.

The idea is to tap the springs up the hill from where they empty now and pump the water into reservoir tanks to be used by the people. They will also build shelters to protect the water from animals.

After the setbacks of not being able to drill and then waiting for the plans to be adjusted accordingly, this is such welcome news.  Thank you all for your support in raising funds for clean water.  I will be updating our fundraising information with a new goal for the medical clinic shortly.

Keep praying for the people of Zadecha!

Nicco has been in Thailand this past week preparing for the surgeries he needed for his heart.  Thank you to all who helped get him there.  Here is an update.

Mike Rodgers posted the following update on Nicco this morning:

Just talked with Nicco. He has had several "timely" (praise God) heart procedures today. More follow-up tests on Monday thru Wednesday then hopefully return to Ethiopia late this week. Once again, he thanks all and knows our prayers are being answered.

Latest info on Nicco (our friend, co-worker and UCity mission staff member in Ethiopia). He needs angioplasty surgery which is not possible in Ethiopia and would rather fly to Bangkok for this surgery than have open heart surgery in Ethiopia. Total cost is $4500 for flight and the surgery. Any help would be amazing.

Donate on www.Garrettsheart.webs.com . Hit the DONATE button on the page and, if paying via Paypal, type "Nicco" in the Address Line 2 of the payment information. If paying the old fashioned way, write NICCO in the memo line of your check. THANKS!

Please pray for Nicco in Ethiopia.  He had a heart attack today and isn't doing well. Please pray... So special to our family as he was the one who made it possible to get Tia & Garrett home. Now, he continues to play a crucial role in relationship building with the Zay people. Above all, he is a great friend, servant, & light in a place that desperately needs it.
